Some are to calm me down, others are to get me psyched up. Whether I’m going hunting, fishing, or surfing, here are some songs that I like to listen to while on my way out.
It may be a quick outing to the beach , or a long car ride across multiple states. Get your mind in the right place with these tracks.
I Stay Away – Alice In Chains
Kinda hardcore, I know. But it gets me so fired up to travel around and just be outside. Seems like the perfect cross-country driving song.
No Sleep til Brooklyn – Beastie Boys
Driving all night to get to go fill your dream tag? Got some good people with you to keep you awake and laughing? This song has become my anthem for driving through the night, state to state.
Voodoo Child – Jimi Hendrix
Such a good jam to get you fired up, whether you are going surfing, hunting, fishing, whatever!
Stranglehold – Ted Nugent
Manliest song ever written. Need I say more?
Can’t You See – The Marshall Tucker Band
Another good song for those long hauls. Its even an easy one to whip out around the campfire, if you have a guitar handy.
Blitzkrieg Bop – The Ramones
I-O, Let’s go. If you have a good crew with you, this song will be played at least once an hour. Great tripping tune.
Burning for You – Blue Oyster Cult
Windows open, warm breeze in your face. Been on the road for a bit too long? Turn the radio up for this track and it is sure to revitalize the spirits.
Release – Pearl Jam
A good slow one. Calms me down and gets me in the zone.
Isis – Bob Dylan
I have fond memories of this song on the long haul to north-eastern Nevada with my college roommate. It had us ready to make the trek and scout monster bull elk.
Just Breathe – Pearl Jam
Another good slow jam. Takes you back for a minute and makes you reevaluate things briefly. Definitely a must for the outdoors.
Learn to Fly – Foo Fighters
What a classic. This song never fails to give me a little “umph” no matter how tired or somber I am.
Meant to Live – Switchfoot
This track really speaks to me in many ways. Without a doubt, it makes me want to live life outside and free! So let’s go!
Cat Scratch Fever – Ted Nugent
Once again, do I need to explain myself? If its from the Nuge, its a must to play it before a hunt.
Old Man – Neil Young
Dad teach you how to hunt? Mine did! Listen to this classic and have a nice thought about him!
Well I hope you enjoyed my outdoors playlist. Maybe some of these songs will invoke the same feelings they do to me while I am on the road or hanging around camp. Goodluck, and I’ll see you out there!
