The scene outside the zoo in Tbilisi, Georgia where animals got loose after a recent flood looked like something out of the Noah’s Ark story from the bible.
A hippopotamus was cornered on a flooded city street and was tranquilizers. Alligators were in the street. And a bear was found perched on an air conditioning unit to avoid floodwaters. Other reports indicated that a lion and possibly other zoo animals had been shot and killed because people feared for their life.
The flood, which claimed 12 lives, also resulted in several animal drownings at the zoo. Flash floods turned a normally serene stream into raging floodwaters, destroying many of the enclosures at the nearby zoo. Georgian special forces were called in to help restore order.
