Paddleboards and hammocks. And hammocks on paddleboards. The first day of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market convention kicked off with its Outdoor Demo Day in the blistering sun at Pineview Reservoir.
Attendees had a chance to try out some of the latest gadgets and gizmos on the water and on the beach. The surge in stand-up paddleboard sales in recent years continues to be reflected at the largest outdoor industry trade show in the world.
Paddleboards of all sizes filled the waters, from the conventional to the extremely unconventional. There were boards with motors, others that pedaled like a stair master and yet another with a hammock mounted on the deck.
On the beaches, fat bikes cruised over the sand, demonstrating another popular trend right now the outdoor industry. Fat bikes have extra wide tires, which makes them more versatile than traditional mountain bikes, though not as fast as nimble.
In recent years the market for fat bikes more than doubled, creating the fastest-growing market segment in the cycling industry.
