Authorities searching for the alligator that attacked and killed a 2-year-old boy at a Walt Disney World resort in Orlando have euthanized five gators and yet to find any remains of the boy.
There was “no question” the toddler seized by an alligator late Tuesday night is dead, according to a spokesman for the Orange county Sheriff’s Office in charge of the search.
The scene sounds like any parent’s worst nightmare, or a nightmare you would never imagine as a father wrestled the alligator for his own son.
The boy was reportedly wading in shallow water near the Seven Seas Lagoon around 9:15 pm when an alligator snatched him. The father, who was nearby, sustained minor lacerations to his arm as he attempted to pull the boy back. But the alligator was no match.
The family is from Nebraska including two other siblings.
“The ultimate goal is try to bring some closure to the family by recovering their loved one,” Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said during a Wednesday afternoon news conference, according to Fox News.
