Six people were killed and more than a dozen injured recently at the Rally de A Coruna when a rally car veered off course and plowed into a crowd of spectators.
The Rally de A Coruna is a part of the Galician Championship and draws thousands of fans to the streets of A Coruna every year. This year, over 130 cars participated in the event.
The accident occurred around 8 p.m. local time on a narrow section of the course, near the Church of Paleo, where the driver lost control of the car and veered off the road, according to CNN. The car then crashed into a group of spectators before spinning and landing next to the course.
Two pregnant women were among the victims of Saturday’s crash, according to the Spanish language Atlas TV, citing police in A Coruña, Spain. There were at least 16 people injured, including five children, police said. Six people are in serious condition. The driver and co-pilot were not injured, police said.
