America has some great places to explore the trails on your ATV. If you know where to look, you’re usually not that far from a wilderness path. Got the urge to hit the trail? Here are five great destinations for fun and fabulous rides with diverse landscapes to discover.
1. Hatfield and McCoy Trails, West Virginia
More than 700 miles of off-road routes are open all year for ATVs, UTVs and dirt bikes, with varied terrain to suit all levels of experience, so beginners can take a relaxing scenic wander and experienced drivers can face fun challenges. Many of these trails offer other community-connecting trails that allow visitors to access “ATV-friendly towns” to experience the hospitality of southern West Virginia. The system here continues to be developed and linked, with an eventual goal of 2000 total miles of trails.
2. Ride Royal Blue Resort, Tennessee
This 600 mile trail system features family-friendly easy flat terrain as well as very steep climbs dotted with mud holes that present a challenge for the more experienced. Miles of trails couple with convenient ATV Resort and campground accommodations in the beautiful Cumberland Mountains. The trails here range from leisurely treks for families to enjoy to rougher rides and creeks to ford for those who seek a thrill.
3. St. Joe State Park, Missouri
Riders here need to wear a helmet and have their machine equipped with a safety flag before they hit the trails and run wild! There is plenty of diversity with thickly wooded trails and large expanses of sand flats that offer a little slice of fun for everyone.
4. Blacktail Wild Bill Trail System, Montana
Considered short and sweet by ATV enthusiasts, the route here is just 23 miles, but praised as a great trail ride for ATVs, side-by-sides, and Jeeps. Beautiful scenery and just enough twists and turns to keep things interesting for drivers. Designed mainly for 4x4s, these trails are open to all OHVs. Obstacles have been added throughout the trail system for ATVs and UTVs with each having a bypass trail for beginner riders. The area offers great mountain views and scenic vistas of the surrounding lakes.
5. Paiute Trail, Utah
Breathtaking scenery at every turn on a trail system that passes through multiple towns and is so expansive it would take weeks to cover it all. At 900+ miles, this central Utah ATV trail system is the largest in the nation, and was designed to provide enjoyable recreational rides through fantastic scenery. Look for deeply dense forests, canyon trails, and free-roaming herds of elk and deer.
