Will you be facing an ammo shortage during hunting season this year? According to a report in The New York Times, gun sales spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic with a million federal background checks a week being performed during March 2020 and overall gun ownership increasing by 32%.
With increasing gun sales, ammunition sales are also on the rise, leaving many retailers warning of a shortage come hunting season. “Everything is difficult right now,” the manager of Doug’s Shoot’n Sports in Utah, Dave Larsen, told KUTV. “There’s not a single round of ammo really available at any of the wholesalers.”
Larsen states while handgun ammunition is still available, hunters will most likely feel the brunt of the potential shortage. “The big kicker might come in the fall when people are trying to find hunting ammo, because it will be very, very difficult to get,” Larsen continued. He added, “Some manufacturers source stuff from around the world and it’s still not available.”
