Here’s an upcoming festival that could give you a great excuse to book a trip to England this summer and early fall. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an annual hill climb featuring historic motor racing vehicles held in the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex.
This year, the event is scheduled for June 23-26. And then, Sept. 9-11, it’s the Goodwood Revival: a celebration of vintage machines.
Going to Goodwood is a surefire way to get close to some of the most groundbreaking speed machines from bygone eras., and to witness the cutting edge of motorsports today.
When it began in 1993, tens of thousands attended over the weekend; it currently attracts crowds of around 100,000 on each of its three days. A record crowd of 158,000 attended in 2003, before an advance-ticket-only admission policy came into force; attendance is now capped at 150,000.
The theme for this years festival is “Full Throttle, the endless pursuit of power.” As such, it will celebrate the fastest cars and bikes in the history of motorsports.
The Goodwood Revival will honor the late Sir Jack Brabham, 50 years after he became the only driver in Formula One history to claim the World Championship in a car bearing his own name. Brabham raced and tested at Goodwood extensively during his career.
A host of superstars from the world of motorsport attended Goodwood events this year, making it a sort of mecca for high-end racing and sport. And the vintage cars are always a good time. Imagine a 1905 Star Gordon Bennet Racer.
