High surf has been pounding the coasts of California and Hawaii this week as a result of tropical depressions further south with surfers flocking to the water for what could possibly be the rides of their lives.
Unfortunately, for one popular adventure-seeker it may have been his last ride. A famed surfer at Hawaii’s notorious North Shore has gone missing, suspected of perishing in the surf.
The girlfriend of Alec “Ace Cool” Cooke reported him missing on Wednesday after he failed to return home from surfing the previous day. Cooke’s truck with his dog and keys locked inside were discovered in Waimea, but so far no sign of the surfer has been found, according to KITV.com.
Cooke rose to prominence as a surfer in 1985 when a photograph of him riding a big wave was published nationally. The ride at Outer Log Cabins was called “The Biggest Wave” and was featured on CBS News at the time, according to Surfer Magazine.
