Why not combine your love for motorsports with world travel? Really. Because across the globe, there are bands of gear-minded mudhounds who cook up and hold wild competitions to test and play with their expensive machines.
Consider Tasmania. The little tropical island off the coast of Australia is host to a few different events, one of which is the Kellevie 300, which kicks off its 23rd annual race this Saturday.
The Kellevie 300 was first staged in 1993 and was the first off road event to be held in the south of the state. The track is located at Kellevie, just 30 minutes from Hobart private property
The race takes place in a valley alongside the Calton River, celebrating the spirit of off-roading. It’s a test of endurance for competitors and machines alike. The challenges that the K300 throws up are equal to anything encountered at the national events – with river crossings, twisty bush sections and fast sections over a 6.5 km course.
This bush terrain circuit winds up around two sugarloaf mountains and includes two bridge crossings, two river crossings, some tight and twisty turns in amongst the trees, a couple of jumps in front of the spectators and also some fast running on the straights. Most of the circuit can be seen from the spectator arena
For this year’s race, Southern Off Road Racing President Dean Maddock told Offroadracing tasmania.com that racing conditions for the weekend will be fantastic.
“With the top four outright contenders to-date separated by a handful of points three of the leading cars will be lining up this weekend at Kellevie and with the class championships just as tight round four will be hotly contested.”
